Phil Thomas
Research Associate
Phil has recently moved to Glasgow to work for the University of Glasgow (based part-time in Vox) as a researcher on the Distant Voices project, thus breaking her lifelong commitment to only living in cities beginning with L (London, Leicester, Leeds). She has spent the last seven years doing a practice-based PhD in Visual Sociology at Goldsmiths College in London, creating experimental ‘true crime’ as a way of challenging dominant ideas about crime and criminality.
She originally studied dance and has lectured in cultural studies at the London School of Contemporary Dance among other places. Probably the coolest thing she’s done as an academic is write a chapter on Beyoncé.
