Paper Planes: Volume 2 - February 2026
This months song - Every Road Leads to Home
Every Road Leads to Home is a new song created through our ongoing songwriting work at The Bella Centre, Dundee’s community custody unit. Written in collaboration with a woman approaching the end of her sentence, the song marks a significant moment - a sense of finally reaching the closing stretch of a long and complex journey, while holding tight to what has sustained her throughout.
We have had the privilege of working alongside E over time, and this song emerged during a series of one to one song writing sessions with us (led by Louis Abbott), building on the trust, creativity and commitment she has brought to every workshop so far. At its heart, the song speaks to progression, to moving forward with clarity and determination, and to protecting the bond between mother and son despite the challenges of justice involvement. It carries both relief and resolve, acknowledging the weight of the past without allowing it to define the future.
In her own words:
“I wrote this song during my most recent sessions with Vox, having previously loved participating in song writing workshops they have brought to the prison. This song is about how I’m progressing to the end of my journey (finally!), but how I’ve not let it affect the bond between my son and I. I have loved every minute I have spent doing this, and love how much it helps me put my feelings into words.”
This collaboration is a reminder of the importance of long-term creative relationships within justice settings. When space is made for honesty, authorship and care, people are able to articulate their own narratives - not as case studies or statistics, but as artists and parents, as individuals in transition, as people with agency and voice.
Every Road Leads to Home carries that authorship at its core. It is a song shaped by the determination to move forward without leaving love behind. It invites connection and a deeper understanding of what it means to be on the road home to family.
