Dermot

dermot-photoI’ve been working with Vox Liminis on ‘In Tune’ at Barlinnie for the past year.  I’ve loved every minute of it.

From a professional point of view, working on this project has enabled me to develop relationships with the participants.  There have been families that have disclosed personal problems that they are going through which would not have happened had we not created a such a relaxed, supportive environment.  This in turn has meant that I’ve been able to support families who otherwise might never had heard of Families Outside.

From a personal point of view, ‘In Tune’ is a lot of fun.  It’s fun to sing and dance like a lunatic; it’s fun to hear others (even SPS Managers) do the same.  But more than that, it’s fun to see families grow in confidence together.  At the start of every project the vast majority of the dads do not want to sing childish songs in front of other people; by the end of it they tell us that they’re singing down the phone when they speak to their children.

Never before have I been involved with a project that is able to improve the confidence and parenting skills of those participating in such a subtle and enjoyable way.  I feel privileged to be a small part in that.
